Credited with a total of 15 aerial victories, Hans Georg von der Marwitz is shown here in his distinctive burgundy Pfalz D. III he flew as commander of Jagdstaffel 30 around the spring of 1918. The son of a Cavalry General and commander of Germany's Second Army, he began a military career in the cavalry, before moving to infantry regiments and then training as a bomber then fighter
