In the class Aves, there are two subclasses: Archaeornithes (ancient birds) and Neornithes (modern birds). Gallinuloides belongs to the later class, Neornithes. Within the Neornithes subclass are three suborders: Odontognathae, Palaeognathae, and Neognathae. Gallinuloides belongs to the Neognathae order and the family Cracidae.
