1885 HERMANN BAAR. Sermons for Children at Hebrew Orphan Asylum. Signed! Calvinism Vermont | Kindness of aA rather rare author inscribed volume, presumably to one of the "orphans," by Jewish educator and reformer, Dr. Hermann Baar, Superintendent of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum of New York. Founded in 1860, the home cared for over 13,000 children between that year and 1920. Baar became Superintendnet in 1876 and led the school during its most flourishing period. We trace no other signed examples. "Presented to Harry Woolf by Dr. Herman Baar, Dec. 29, 1888.
